We are situated in the famous 'Pays de Cathare'. Take time to explore a thousand years of history, visiting the many magnificant castles which still stand today. We are only 20 minutes from Montsegur, where the Cathars finally surrendered to the Royal Catholic French troops. It is thought that a few managed to escape with their 'treasure', which has caused much speculation over the centuries, but some believe it may have been the 'Holy Grail' itself. The beautiful and historic city of Carcassonne itself is only 50 minutes drive away...

With the Pyrennees only 30 minutes away, throughout the summer this is an ideal place for hiking, cycling, caving and white water rafting, and for skiing and snowboarding in the winter.
Lake Montbel is only 5km away, a perfect place to go swimming, sailing, walking, or sunbathing.

vineyards
The Languedoc and Rouisillon is known to be the largest vineyard in the world, and in the last 20 years one of the most exciting areas of viticulture in France. Wine tasting is a popular activity during the summer! We can either arrange wine tasting tours for you at vineyards like *Domain Begude (*for groups of 6 or more), or you can go off and explore them for yourselves.
food
Foods of the area include apples, goats cheese, honey and nougat. The local dishes are cassoulet and fricasse.
There are a number of restaurants in Chalabre, Mirepoix and Limoux, and of course further afield in Carcassonne, where you can enjoy great French cuisine. sea
The blue sea of the Mediterranean is only 100km away. Spend a day exploring the resorts of Collioure and Banyuls-sur-Mer, visit the cities of Perpignan and Narbonne, or simply head to Port-Vendres for a fantastic sea food lunch!

Take home some of the local produce of the area after visiting the many brocantes, local markets, summer fetes and potteries.
